I have a great book called The Quotable Walt Disney and I want to try to use some of the quotes on layouts so I thought I would also share a few here in case you guys would like to use them. Even just pieces of these would be fun to use on pages. And while most of these are things he said about Disneyland, they extend to WDW for the most part.
"Disneyland is like Alice stepping thru the Looking Glass; to step thru the portals of Disneyland will be like entering another world."
"The idea of Disneyland is a simple one. It will be a place for people to find happiness and knowledge. It will be a place for parents and children to share pleasant times in one another's company.
Here the older generation can recapture the nostalgia of days gone by, and the younger generation can savor the challenge of the future.
Disneyland will be based upon and dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and hard facts that have created America. And it will be uniquely equipped to dramatize these dreams and facts and send them forth as a source of courage and inspiration to all the world.
Disneyland will sometimes be a fair, an exhibition, a playground, a community center, a museum of living facts, and a showplace of beauty and magic.
It will be filled with accomplishments, the joys and hopes of the world we live in. And it will remind us and show us how to make these wonders part of our own lives."
"I don't want the public to see the world they live in while they're in Disneyland. I want them to feel they're in another world."
"Disneyland is something that will never be finished. Something that I can keep developing, keep plussing and adding to. It's alive. It will be a live, breathing thing that will need to change.
I wanted something alive, something that could grow, something I could keep plussing with ideas; the park that is. Not only can I add things, but even the trees will keep growing. The things will get more beautiful each year. "
"Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world"
"Disneyland is often called the Magic Kingdom because it combines fantasy and history, adventure and learning, together with every variety of recreation and fun designed to appeal to everyone."
"Here you leave today - and visit the worlds of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy."
"Here is Adventure. Here is romance. Here is mystery. Tropical rivers - silently flowing into the unknown. The unbelievable splendor of exotic flowers . . . the eerie sound of the jungle . . . with eyes that are always watching. This is Adventureland."
"Here is the world of imagination, hopes, and dreams. In this timeless land of enchantment, the age of chivalry, magic, and make believe are reborn - and fairy tales come true. Fantasyland is dedicated to the young in heart, to those who believe that when you wish upon a star, your dreams come true."
"Here we experience the story of our country's past . . . the colorful drama of Frontier America in the exciting days of the covered wagon and the stagecoach . . . the advent of the railroad . . . and the romantic riverboat. Frontierland is a tribute to the faith, courage, and ingenuity of the pioneers who blazed the trails across America."
"Main Street, U.S.A. is America at the turn of the century - the crossroads of an era. The gas lamps and the electric lamps - the horse-drawn car and the auto car. Main Street is everyone's hometown - the heart line of America."
"A vista into a world of wondrous ideas, signifying man's achievements . . . a step into the future, with predictions of constructive things to come. Tomorrow offers new frontiers in science, adventure, and ideal: the Atomic Age . . . the challenge of outer space . . . and the hope for a peaceful and unified world."
"EPCOT is like the city of tomorrow ought to be. A city that caters to the people as a service function. It will be a planned, controlled, community, a showcase for American industry and research, schools, cultural, and educational opportunities."
"But the most exciting and by far the most important part of our Florida project . . . in fact, the heart of everything we'll be doing in Disney World . . . will be our Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow! We call it EPCOT, EPCOT will be an experimental prototype community of tomorrow that will take its cue from the new ideas and new technologies that are now emerging from the creative centers of American industry."
"Here in Florida, we have something special we never enjoyed at Disneyland . . . the blessing of size. There's enough land here to hold all the ideas and plans we can possibly imagine."
"Believe me, it's the most exciting and challenging assignment we have ever tackled at Walt Disney Productions. " (about Disney World)
"The important thing is the family. If you can keep the family together - and that's the backbone of our whole business, catering to families - that's what we hope to do."
"Actually, if you could see close in my eyes, the American flag is waving in both of them and up my spine is growing this red, white, and blue stripe."
"I have learned from the animal world, and what everyone will learn who studies it is, a renewed sense of kinship with the earth and all it's inhabitants."
"I love the nostalgic myself. I hope we never lose some of the things of the past."
